Hand-made Hojicha Konpeito

I feel nostalgic when seeing konpeito.I think konpeito is one of Japanese traditional sweets. However, it came from Portugal originally.

The surface has a lot of little spiky parts. It reminds me of stars. The main ingiridient is granulated sugar. I can find them on the candy shelf in a supermarket.

Ryokujuan-shimizu's konpeito are made by skilled laborers, which is rare.

Additionally ryokujuan-shimizu is a long-established store and has been making only konpeito since 1847. What an old konpeito maker!!

They have many flavors. I got hojicha flavor. Hojicha is roasted green tea. This is why the color is brown, not green. (The color of the photo printed on the can is more brown  than the color of real konpeito)

When I put it in my mouth, the roasted aroma slightly comes from the back of the mouth. It is different from usual candies. This konpeito is for adults.

This time my husband bought it in Kyoto. However, they have a shop in Ginza. I didn't know it.
